Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year and we hope you had a chance to recharge those batteries before we dive head long into 2010.
Our office was closed between Christmas and New Year so we all took a well deserved break and are back on deck ready to get back to business.
With the start of a New Year comes a renewed enthusiasm for our business and the first step we chose was the change from a quarterly newsletter to a monthly one.
By doing this we hope to provide you with more timely information as well as reducing the size of our newsletter so it's quicker and easier for you to read.
We also want to help you build your business via your website and would love to know what keeps you awake when you think about your business and your website.
- Do you know if your website is up?
- Do you know if people are visiting it?
- Are they coming in droves but leaving quckly because it's not what they wanted or expected?
These are all measurements that you can get access to in order to improve your website and improve your bottom line. What concerns do you have about your business and the Internet? Let us know your suggestions and feedback today at admin@insilico.com.au.
Filtering the Internet
As you are probably aware, the Australian Government plans to move ahead with internet filtering, despite claims from various authorities that the proposed solution is unworkable.
Now I am sure that none of us want to see child pornography on the internet or have our kids accessing unsuitable sites but is this really the right way to tackle this problem?
Like us, most web-savvy parents have educated their children about the dangers that lurk on the Internet, including being contacted by random strangers.
Sadly though, many parents are not sufficiently educated in the Internet to be able to manage this properly and inadvertently abdicate their responsibilities for child care to this next-gen babysitter.
Perhaps a more effective approach would be to engage the parents and make them aware of the dangers that lie in wait, and the simple things they can do to protect their children like knowing who everyone is on their MSN contacts list.
The Web Industry in general does not believe this is the best way forward as many legitimate sites may be filtered out. Also the speed of the internet may be affected by up to 44% - and you thought it was slow now!!!

If you feel strongly about the way the Government has handled this matter, there is a protest being scheduled from January 25 and 29, including Australia Day!
These protests will be both online and offline, and your website can be part of it. If you would like to protest against Internet Filtering call us on 9200 4431 or email admin@insilico.com.au and we can help you get involved....
